Rev. Patrick Melton, Pastor

Unfortunately, I’m not a native-born Texan, but I did get here as soon as I could.  Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, I moved to Texas after Army Basic Training.  My undergraduate degrees are in English and History from the University of North Texas.  UNT is also where I met my wife, Stephanie.  Stephanie and I have been married for 26 years and have two adult children, both of whom are now married.  Our son, Benjamin Melton, is, as of September 26th, 2021, married to Danielle.  Our daughter, Anna, is married to Brad Johnson.  Brad and Anna have blessed our family with two grandsons, Emmett (2), and Elliott (1).

I am a second career pastor.  I worked for sixteen years as a manager, project manager and Unix Administrator prior to accepting the call into full time ministry.  During that time, my wife and I became very active in our local United Methodist Church in Heath, Texas.  As a congregation member, I served on two building committees, chaired SPRC, taught Sunday School classes for adults, children, and teens, led evening bible studies including Disciple Studies and ALPHA, organized and led mission trips both local and abroad, and actively participated in Charge Conferences both heated and routine.  I took classes to become a Lay Speaker, and as such, I preached in my local church as well as, at invitation, other churches.  I acted as a volunteer Youth Director, then as a paid part-time Youth Director while working full time and attending seminary classes at Perkins.

I graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology and for the past 7 years, I have worked full-time in ministry as an associate pastor at First United Methodist, New Braunfels.

I am extremely excited to be accepting this assignment to FUMC Hallettsville and Mossy Grove.  My wife and I are looking forward to meeting everyone, discovering what Hallettsville is doing and how we can become part of that mission!
